Pride. I've never had any concrete example that I've been able to refer to and to see it work in a negative manner. But even those that seem to work in a positive manner can have their fallouts, like national pride. Though it may seem all good and glorious and drawing people together, it can instill somewhat discriminatory ideas into people, but isn't that the idea? Our country is better than yours. We are better than you. I am better than you?
What I was referring to was something that happened to me the other day. My mom had asked me if I wanted to rake the leaves, and as was my usual case (lazy), I said that I didn't want to do it, and I do believe that she said something about next weekend. But as I went down to prepare myself a snack later on, I noticed that she was outside raking the leaves. I thought that she shouldn't be doing such a thing, and that rather I should be doing it, being nearly a quarter her age. I knew I should have gone out instead of doing whatever I was doing (namely, nothing), but I was unable to do so... because I had already told her no and that suddenly succumbing and raking the leaves would... be seen as a sign of weakness or some such thing. I was too proud to go back on my word, to rescind what I said and do the work.
I'm too lazy to rewrite this so... it'll have to do. :p
